PROFILE OF PARENTS WHO CAN ADOPT SPECIAL NEED’S CHILDREN :

Adoptive parents of children with special needs are extraordinary. Some have already experienced caring for children, whether their own, or those of relatives or friends. They are often able to handle stress positively. They are altruistic and independent in their thinking. They usually want a child who needs them. Other older siblings in the family stimulate the new sibling and are also a resource for helping the child to settle into the family. It is necessary to Identify foreign agencies that have a good track record with placing special needs children. Thus the profile necessarily be as under:

  1. Older and experienced parents tend to be more secure and committed to such a decision to parent a child with special needs. They have the skills, patience and financial means and parenting experiences.
  2. Parents who have had experience either though the field they work in, or because they have had some exposure to the condition, may be better equipped to parent these children.
  3. Single parents are a good resource for some older children.
  4. The HSR will reflect the motivation and ability to adopt such a child.
  5. Every human being has the right to grow with dignity and some families are ready to promote this concept.
  6. Annual minimum Income of US $ 40,000 for foreign PAP/adequate income in case of Indian families.
  7. The couple could have been previously married and now want to have a family together through adoption.
